I am Erika Tunson, your principal, and I am honored to serve you. I had been the assistant principal here at Monterey for six years prior to becoming principal and I love working at this school! Monterey has truly transformed from good to great over the last few years.

I am no stranger to Harrison School District 2 as I am beginning my twenty-seventh year in the district! After teaching for seventeen years and then working at the district level for a few years I came to Monterey. It is my privilege to supervise one of my former second-grade students who now teaches here, which is such an inspiration and acknowledgment of how teachers, school staff, and families can truly make a difference in the life of our students.

I am dedicated to our mission of building a foundation for students to grow and achieve and I have an amazing staff to help us realize that mission. Our student's education and their safety are my number one priority. Our theme for this school year is #EMPOWER! We are empowered to learn, to teach, and to be the best we can be! I am so grateful to be your principal and I look forward to a great year working together!
